General Job Description
Under general supervision, the Salty Packaging Machine Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of packaging machinery. This includes maintaining product flow to packaging lines, making minor machine adjustments, troubleshooting, performing maintenance, and keeping accurate records.
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain shift documentation, including metal detector and batch order verifications.
Read and interpret production schedules using MicroStrategy.
Print labels using various printers and programs; clean and adjust printers as needed.
Perform nitrogen testing.
Monitor packaging machinery for correct codes, dates, and prices.
Ensure adequate supply of roll stock and packaging materials.
Set up and write new programs for bag makers.
Edit machine micro logic to maintain efficient, low-waste operations.
Create and modify code dates.
Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
Calibrate and adjust scales and linkages; make minor adjustments to formers.
Operate packaging equipment including case sealers and robot cells.
Plan and execute efficient machine changeovers.
Monitor and adjust machines for proper film cut-off and seal quality.
Ensure machines run at standard speeds.
Monitor product appearance and adhere to weight control standards.
Perform bag weight checks every 20 minutes and inspect for quality issues.
Operate auxiliary equipment such as baggers, scales, conveyors, seal checkers, and case packers.
Identify and resolve packaged product quality issues.
Sort and rework good product from run-off.
Clean machines and work areas regularly.
Report maintenance issues promptly to technicians or supervisors.
Follow safety and hygiene procedures for housekeeping and personal protection.
Store supplies in designated areas.
Keep aisles and exits clear; remove trash from work area.
Follow safe lifting and carrying procedures; report equipment issues and injuries.
May provide leadership to packers.
May serve as Back-up Packaging Coordinator or other skilled roles.
If applicable, monitor and replenish seasoning to ensure proper coverage.
Mandatory overtime may be required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or GED is preferred, but not required.
Experience:
One year of production experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred, but not required.

Work Environment
Employees are regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and frequently to wet or humid conditions. Occasional exposure includes high or precarious places, airborne particles, and caustic chemicals. The noise level is typically loud.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting Rate: $25.50 per hour
