Job Summary
The Maintenance Mechanic II is a senior-level role responsible for advanced mechanical maintenance, complex troubleshooting, and high-level repair of production and facility systems. This technician is expected to diagnose root causes, perform precision rebuilds, lead preventive and predictive maintenance tasks, and support continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, deeper technical expertise, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Job Description:
This position is responsible for the installation and repair of various plant operating systems. Primary duties include:
Advanced Mechanical & Technical Work
1. Perform complex troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, including high-speed packaging equipment, processing systems, and industrial ovens.
2. Conduct precision mechanical work such as bearing installation, shaft and coupling alignment, chain and belt alignment, gearbox rebuilds, and machine-level adjustments.
3. Diagnose root cause failures, recommend corrective actions, and document repairs thoroughly.
4. Perform fabrication work, including cutting, welding, machining, and blueprint interpretation.
5. Execute predictive and preventive maintenance activities, including vibration analysis, thermal inspections, lubrication systems, and equipment rebuild schedules.
Electrical and Controls Support
6. Troubleshoot electrical systems up to 480V, including motors, sensors, relays, and control wiring.
7. Perform intermediate PLC diagnostics, including reading ladder logic, identifying input/output faults, and assisting in programming changes under guidance.
8. Maintain and configure variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor starters, and instrumentation devices.
Operational Support
9. Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform repairs quickly, safely, and effectively to minimize downtime.
10. Collaborate with production, engineering, and leadership teams to improve equipment performance and reliability.
11. Train and mentor Mechanic I personnel in best practices, troubleshooting steps, and maintenance procedures.
12. Ensure adherence to all OSHA, GMP, Food Safety, and plant safety standards.
13. Complete other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Technical degree, trade school certification, or advanced industrial maintenance coursework strongly preferred.
· 5+ years industrial mechanical maintenance experience, preferably in a continuous manufacturing or food production environment.
· Demonstrated expertise with mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, drive systems, conveyor technology, and packaging machinery.
· Proficiency in reading mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
· Strong working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, PLC diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
· Advanced skill in machine repair, fabrication, welding, machining, and precision alignment.
· Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or lead small groups.
· Must be safety conscious, follow OSHA regulations, and comply with all GMP and Food Safety standards.
· Ability to operate forklifts, hoists, aerial lifts, and other industrial equipment.
