Job Description
General Summary
The Engineering Summer Associate supports the Plant Engineering team by assisting with engineering and capital-related projects throughout the plant. This temporary, summer-based role works directly with the Plant Engineer and provides hands-on exposure to manufacturing operations, project coordination, and equipment improvement initiatives.
The position focuses on supporting projects related to safety, quality, efficiency, and reliability while gaining practical experience in a food manufacturing environment. The Summer Associate collaborates with multiple plant departments and contributes to project documentation, data collection, and implementation support.
Principal Accountabilities
Assist the Plant Engineer with the planning, execution, and tracking of capital improvement projects, equipment installations, and facility upgrades.
Support assigned engineering projects by gathering data, maintaining project documentation, tracking timelines, and assisting with cost estimates and status updates.
Participate in project meetings and cross-functional discussions to gain exposure to engineering project workflows and plant operations.
Assist with reliability improvement initiatives by observing equipment performance, documenting opportunities, and supporting basic analysis activities.
Provide hands-on support during equipment installations, testing, and commissioning activities under the direction of the Plant Engineer.
Help prepare presentations, reports, and project summaries for leadership and cross-functional teams.
Observe and follow all plant safety, food safety, and GMP requirements while working in both office and plant floor environments.
Perform other project-related and administrative tasks as assigned to support Plant Engineering objectives.
Job Specifications
Education (Required):
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
Education (Preferred):
Completion of sophomore year or higher in an engineering program
Experience:
Prior manufacturing, technical, or project-based experience preferred but not required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing environments
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to analyze data and assist with technical documentation
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); exposure to AutoCAD or project software is a plus
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow direction from engineering leadership
Willingness to learn and work in both office and plant floor settings.
Working Conditions
The role includes both office and plant floor work. The Summer Associate may be exposed to industrial noise, moving mechanical parts, temperature variations, and electrical-powered equipment while in operating areas of the plant. All required safety and PPE guidelines must be followed.
